Support for International Geodiversity Day 2022
- International Geodiversity Day (IGD) is one of UNESCO activities started from the approval on 22 November 2021 by the 193 Member States attending UNESCO’s General Conference. Recognizing the importance of geoscience in solving major challenges that humanity is facing today, the UNESCO’s General Conference proclaimed 6 October as International Geodiversity Day. The adoption of International Geodiversity Day follows a proposal from the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and 108 other scientific organisations including our society, the Tokyo Geographical Society (TGS).
- International Geodiversity Day (IGD) is a worldwide celebration, bringing people together on October 6 each year, to promote the many aspects of geodiversity. Geodiversity impacts many areas of society. As such use and understanding of geodiversity is essential to the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- The Tokyo Geographical Society will hold "Lecture and Talks Commemorating Tokyo Geographical Society Medal 2020" as an registered IGD 2022 event.
